'Safety In Use', the New European CEN Standards legislation - States that all types of door should be maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.

Legislation calls for the maintenance of metal doors, shutters & grilles.
All types of doors: Regulation 5 of the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992.
“The equipment, devices and systems to which this regulation applies shall be subject to a suitable system of maintenance”
This requires that your doors are regular maintained, to suppliers/manufacturers recommendations, and is carried out at regular intervals, potentially dangerous defects are to be remedied, and that suitable records are kept.
Electric & Power Operated Doors: Regulation 6 of the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
“Every employer should ensure that the work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”
“Every employer should ensure that where any machinery has a maintenance log, the log is kept up to date”
Fire Exit & Compartment Doors: Regulation 6 of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997.
“where necessary, in order to safeguard the safety of employees in the case of fire, the workplace and any equipment and devices provided ……. shall be subject to a suitable system of maintenance and be maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.
These regulations are binding on employers who have a duty to safeguard the Health & Safety of their employees and visitors to their site(s).
